Position Summary: The Tropical Forages program is seeking to recruit a Forages Intern to support the screening of spider-mite tolerance in a wide gene-bank accessions pool both in the field and in controlled conditions in the greenhouse in Mbita, Kisumu. He/she will work closely with program team members within the organization. Duties and Responsibilities · Screening of spider mite tolerance in a wide gene-bank accessions pool both in the field and in controlled conditions in the greenhouse · Aid in the establishment of plants both in the greenhouse and the field. · Conduct field screening of a wide gene-bank accessions pool. This will require field work (aid in the establishment of plants, maintenance, data collection and analysis) · Conduct artificial greenhouse screening on field selected accessions using a previously developed assay. This will require rearing of the colony, establishment of plants to conduct assay, establishment of trial, data collection, image analysis and data analysis. Qualification and personal attributes Master’s degree in Agriculture or other closely related discipline Excellent interpersonal, writing, communication and planning skills Self-driven and attention to detail · Eagerness to learn new skillsets · Excellent interpersonal skills with advanced written and verbal communication in English language and a local dialect in Kenya. · Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multi-cultural environment · Ability to do multiple tasks under pressure and meet deadlines · Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision, but also participate as a team member in the accomplishment of duties.
