**SayPro Coordination Center to Support Racial Equity and Substance Use Disparities Research

Who says that people with disabilities and their caregivers don’t have the capacity to participate in today’s society?

Well, some say that those who have disabilities or chronic diseases are just a burden on the government and should be left out of everything. But guess what, this view is now changing because SayPro Coordination Center is helping researchers understand how racial equity and substance use disparities affect people living with both conditions.

Says Yemisi Ijeh, a senior research associate at SayPro: ‘Racial inequity is still prevalent in the United States. The extent to which it has an impact on people living with both disabilities and chronic diseases has been underexplored until now. As such, we wanted to help inform this conversation by participating in a study involving people who live with both conditions.’

Through the SayPro Coordination Center, we’re committed to advancing research that connects disability and health care in innovative ways that make a difference in the lives of our community – one person at a time.

SayPro is committed to making a difference in the lives of people affected by substance use and racial equity. We are proud to announce our partnership with the Coordination Center for Racial Equity and Substance Use Disparities Research, which aims to bridge the gap between research and practice by creating strategies that will help organizations achieve equitable results.

Through this partnership, SayPro will be donating funds to support the work of the Coordination Center by providing valuable information for racial justice organizations interested in improving their efforts on substance use disparities. By combining research with real-world experience, we can create groundbreaking strategies that truly make a difference in an organization’s success.

We hope this partnership will inspire more research and further development of initiatives aimed at achieving racial justice.

Substance use and mental health issues are prevalent among racial and ethnic minorities. In fact, substance use disorders are nearly five times more common among these groups than among Caucasians. Many factors contribute to this disparity, including lack of access to health care, stigma, social isolation, and socioeconomic status. But what might also play a role is a lack of coordination between health care providers and the research community.

The SayPro Coordination Center will bridge that gap by coordinating a research network that incorporates substance use into racial equity studies. The SayPro Coordination Center will work with healthcare providers to develop culturally competent training programs that teach researchers about the unique issues faced by minority populations when it comes to substance use. This unique approach will help researchers understand why substance use is such an important component of racial equity research, and how to effectively incorporate it into their studies going forward.
