**SayPro empowers unemployed youth in WHITE CITY Area

Youth unemployment is a problem that needs to be addressed at all levels. And, the area of White City in Chennai is one such locality where participants of the Youth with Employment (YWE) project are coming together to solve it. Saya pro SayPro is an initiative by the YWE community of White City that teaches basic literacy and numeracy skills to unemployed youth so that they can get back on their feet and find a new job.

This initiative runs for 12 weeks, during which youth attend classes 3 times a week for 1 hour. These classes teach students about basics of literacy like English, Tamil, Math and more important soft skills like communication and teamwork. After 12 weeks, student’s profile will be sent to different companies who can shortlist them for interviews. The companies say yes or no to offer training and placement when needed in their workplace or in another workplace.

White City is one of the most economically disadvantaged areas in India. Lack of employment opportunities and access to quality education is a concern for all who live here.
