“I taught teens at the Bana Ba Modimo Children’s Ministry in Diepsloot for years. In spending time in this environment I came to know many of the teens personally. I started to understand their needs, hardships and zest for life. I realised that there was a great need for life skills and so started encouraging friends and colleagues to get involved. After much prayer I decided to take action. One birthday instead of receiving the usual bath smellies, scarves and bottles of wine from friends I sent a request out to rather make a donation to a fund. The result was encouraging and so Diepsloot Youth Project was born. Some special people at ENS, Africa’s largest law firm, encouraged the cause to grow and so we pursued registration. I have learned that when something is right, doors open. This has been my experience with this initiative as people continue to support and encourage our work.
