Job Description

Requirements for Senior Lecturer All applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary sciences (BSVSc) degree. In addition, the following apply for appointment as a Senior Lecturer: MSc and PhD/Doctoral degree in Veterinary Science/ Animal Science or related field. At least five (5) years teaching in a tertiary institution or seven (7) years professional as a Veterinarian, or specialist in Animal Science/Animal Production/Animal Health/Animal Physiology or related field or in industrial biotechnology or related research environment. Candidate must provide evidence of at least five (5) publications in accredited, peer reviewed journals, Evidence of student supervision from Honours level. SayPro: Ensures that program taught comply with required academic and other standards by: Compiling lecture notes, study guides, practical manuals Teach and assess students using multimodal and blended approaches Proposing prescribed and recommended textbooks to remain up-to-date in own field Monitoring and evaluating students’ academic progress and standing by preparing, assigning and marking tests, examinations, projects and assignments Mentoring lecturers/junior lecturers/demonstrators Senior undergraduate and Postgraduate student supervision Enhancing knowledge and skills in own field, to benefit of University, students and/or staff Contributing to departmental administration Participating in Faculty and University Committees and community development programmes Preparing individual and joint/collaborative project proposals and leading/conducting approved projects, and participating in outside development projects Ensuring personal continuous professional development in order to remain relevant and current in teaching and supervising Animal Science students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels Provide animal health support services to experimental and production animals at the university farm.
