As part of Diepsloot Youth Project in-house literacy program, Diepsloot Youth Project partnered with Litasa and FunDza on International Literacy Day (14 Sept). 40 of Diepsloot Youth Project grade 7-9 learners took part in the activities which included readings by Morena Maoka from his book ‘Salted’. Each learner also received a copy of the book to take home and continue reading for themselves.

As encouraging as these improvements are, it is unlikely that technology on its own is capable of delivering a solution to SA’s educational challenges, although it seems entirely possible that the proper application of certain kinds of technology has the potential to make a marked positive contribution. At the very least, the growing prevalence of technology in educational contexts across the spectrum offers increasing opportunities for collaboration and shared learning. It is in this spirit that Diepsloot Youth Project offer further details of the project below:
