Job Description Sol Plaatje University is one of Africas youngest and most exciting institutions of Higher Education a university that is committed to providing high quality learning, teaching, research and community engagement opportunities to its students and staff. Based in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape, the University is ambitious about its intellectual contributions to, and engagements with, people in the region and beyond. The DVC: Teaching and Learning is a 5 year fixed-term contract position which is part of a small Executive Team and is responsible for the management of the core academic functions of the University, inclusive of people, budget, financial, health and safety management responsibilities. Position Specification Interaction and liaison with external partners, including government, local and international universities, alumni, business and local communities, professional bodies and/or advisory boards for professional programmes, accreditation bodies and donors (fundraising); Performance of various representative and ceremonial functions; Responsibility for section 16 (2) responsibilities assigned by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993; Oversight of the effective implementation of reporting systems; Any other duties and/or responsibilities, assigned by the Vice-Chancellor, as deemed appropriate. Minimum Requirements A PhD or doctoral degree from an accredited South African university (or SAQA Certificate of Evaluation, if a foreign university conferred the doctoral degree); An outstanding academic, with an established track record and at least eight (8) years experience in a senior leadership role in an academic institution, such as a Dean or Senior Head of an Academic Department; A demonstrated track record in managing a complex portfolio, preferably in a Higher Education institution; Understanding of institutional cultural transformation and organisational alignment. Ability to think strategically and operationalise this into plans and projects; Knowledge and experience in digital scholarly resources, online learning and technology; and Innovative leadership capabilities in devising curricular and co-curricular strategies and quality assurance in assessments for graduates to be ready for the future world of work. Additional advantages: A successful record of leadership and teamwork (including a proven record of developing, mentoring, and supporting others, and the ability to mobilize and inspire others toward shared goals); Experience with developments in e-Learning in a university environment; Understanding of developments in the Higher Education arena; Ability and experience in having planned and managed budgets; and Capabilities in designing or developing innovative systems and approaches in the Higher Education context. Duties & Responsibilities To actively support the Vice-Chancellor in leading and managing the University in ensuring the effective implementation of the Universitys mission, vision, values and strategic priorities, including: Academic leadership and executive oversight, planning and professionalization in the areas of teaching and learning; Oversight and review of relevant policy and procedure development and implementation for the academic environment; Planning and oversight of academic programmes, including enrolment planning, and the expansion of the teaching programmes and focus on niche areas; Oversight of curriculum development, review, renewal and transformation; and Quality assurance and enhancement, including the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the quality assurance system to meet both internally set standards and the requirements of relevant external bodies; Oversight of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and Industry Liaison within the vocational and professional programmes Oversight of the following academic entities, as well as the transition from schools to faculties: School of Economic and Management Sciences; School
