Job Summary:

The Financial Empowerment Center program aims to improve the financial stability of Sacramento households by providing high-quality, one-on-one financial education and counseling to low-income residents. Financial Empowerment Centers are located in areas with high concentrations of poverty and financial distress. The Financial Coach will provide on-going coaching and counseling services to low-income individuals and families in Sacramento. The Financial Coach position will report directly to the Financial Empowerment Center Program Manager within the Financial Empowerment Center Team. The Financial Coach will have an indirect reporting line to the appointed supervisor in each partner agency that houses the Financial Coach.

Major Responsibilities:

Duties shall include, but are not limited to:

● Assess client needs and develop individual financial action plans with each client;

● Provide individualized financial counseling sessions (including both initial and follow-up sessions) and achieve client outcomes.

● Make appropriate referrals and integrate other wraparound supports (i.e. benefits, tax preparation) into counseling to achieve greater results;

● Engage in ongoing follow-up with clients;

● Collect, track and report required data using client management database;

● Participate in initial trainings and ongoing professional development trainings;

● Follow required protocol and program requirements;

● Successfully complete and pass counselor training.

● Regularly meet with other FEC sites, staff and the FEC Program Manager.

● Participate in FEC-wide events and initiatives.

· Provide financial coaching to a caseload of clients on the subjects of creating a personal budget, establishing a bank account, taking out loans, and establishing credit, as well as advanced asset building topics, including analyzing credit reports, techniques to build credit, and debt reduction as needed;

· Facilitate financial literacy workshops, as well as ensuring financial orientation within cultural orientation and other Sacramento departments, to increase client learning of credit, banking and financial services; Work to expand financial education across the office;

· Coordinate with the FEC Team on internal and external outreach to banks and other community members to assist with financial education and coaching. Maintain relationships with banks and community volunteers;

· Lead outreach events to recruit new clients in financial education programs;

· Ensure that all training requirements are met for participants in budgeting, cash management, savings, investment and credit building. Ensure that participants complete required training;

· Exercise a high level of organizational skill and tracking ability to document in detail eligibility, enrollment and outcomes information for program participants. Assist with program reporting;

· Assist clients with meeting savings goals and ensure retention and regular deposits to maximize the reaching of savings goals;

· Use FEC Database and ETO as assigned to track client services, outcomes, and metrics.

· Keep track of and adhere to the program budget throughout the project duration.

· Participate in all-staff/ program meetings.

· Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• A BA degree from an accredited college and two years of experience or over five years of relevant work experience with some background in finance, financial education, counseling/coaching, or social service delivery;

• Particular expertise in one of the following: financial services, social work, financial planning, coaching/mentoring, teaching, or other related fields.

• Dynamic, committed individual with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for supporting people with low incomes to build greater financial stability.

• Excellent interpersonal skills: the ability to work effectively with partners and colleagues in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment;

• Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines;

• Excellent writing and verbal communication abilities;

• Demonstrated success in program coordination and achieving programmatic goals and outcomes;

• Highly organized self-starter with demonstrated success in managing multiple and diverse priorities, as well as balancing competing deadlines and projects;

• Strong Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook;

• Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area.

• Strategic thinking, with thoughtful, thorough, and detailed follow through.

• Language skills in Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Ukrainian, Hmong, Russian and Spanish a plus.

• Comfortable with taking initiative; effective, collaborative worker; able to retain focus while multi-tasking.

• Ability to function effectively within protocols and challenges of operating within a high-profile local government program.

• Attention to detail and production of quality work, along with ability to work quickly and under pressure.

• Experience with large datasets and data management preferred.

*Working Environment:***Hybrid office work environment combined w/ remote and in-person, office/classroom setting and some travel throughout service delivery area, particularly to partner agencies who house IRC financial coaches. Work computer and supplies provided.
