Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will be responsible for: Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate lectures and practicals in the area of environmental science; Developing and updating undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in environmental science; Contributing to the environmental science research agenda within the University; Building capacity among staff and students to expand and extend the University’s capacity for environmental science research; Establishing a sustainable research funding stream to support the above endeavour; Conducting independent and collaborative publishable research in high-impact journals; Establishing collaborations with academics nationally and internationally; Participating in the administration and general management of the department. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Lecturer: PhD in Environmental Science or a PhD in a closely related discipline that covers aspects of Environmental Science; Evidence of teaching experience. Senior Lecturer: PhD in Environmental Science or a PhD in a closely related discipline that covers aspects of Environmental Science; At least two years of tertiary teaching experience; Experience in curriculum development; Evidence of successful Master’s supervision; Evidence of research post PhD; Experience in academic administration. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES): Innovative thinking; Desire to develop and grow; The potential to lead a strong research entity. ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES: Lecturer: Tertiary teaching experience; Teaching and research expertise aligned with the requirements in the department; Proven publication record that demonstrates his/her ability to independently conduct quality environmental science research; Experience in academic administration; Community engagement. Senior Lecturer: Teaching and research expertise aligned with the requirements in the department; Proven publication record that demonstrates his/her ability to independently conduct quality environmental science research; Participation in faculty committees; Community engagement.
