ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Manager of Alliance Accounting Operatoins serves as the primary business operations liaision for alliance operations related issues between Internews US and Internews EU, a European charity headquartered in London.

LOGISTICS

Internews has US offices in Arcata, CA and Washington, DC which support a hybrid workforce with staff working remotely, fully in-office or partially remote. This is a remote-based role, and candidates based anywhere in the US will be considered.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

General

  • Internal leader for alliance operational concerns, including accounting, agreements, and budgets;
  • Manage the coordination of the inter-alliance structural and organizational agreements;
  • Investigate intercompany operational issues and project differences and negotiate innovative solutions;
  • Resolve intercompany project differences, escalating to senior management as needed;
  • Support centralized operational push to improve alliance operations, managing and supporting department heads and key stakeholders;
  • Support any Alliance Accounting Operations policy and process simplification efforts as part of the Alliance Transformation Initiative (AKA One Internews Integration);
  • Coordinate with Grants and Contracts Office on requests for obligations or other modifications to awards with European funding;
  • Work closely with IUS Business Operations departments to align policies and procedures between the two organizations as much as possible;
  • Review budgets for programs that will be jointly implemented, i.e., Resource Sharing Agreements and other shared cost instruments for projects conducted with European funding;
  • Prepare and/or review monthly financial reports for alliance agreements, flagging potential issues;
  • Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

Accounting

  • Monitor the status of various intercompany tasks and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner;
  • Prepare accounting entries and reports, including the reconciliation of intercompany billing;
  • Monitor budget to actuals to identify and resolve issues proactively;
  • Research financial and operational divergence, including national financial requirements and funder regulations;
  • provide training and guidance for field office accounting staff in processing Alliance transactions;

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • University degree required, preferably in a related field such as international affairs; accounting; or finance
  • Proven five plus years of experience working in operations and/or finance, preferably for a US NGO
  • Experience with program and project integration is a plus
  • Superior analytical, organizational and writing ability
  • Excellent communication skills; diplomatic in communications with high-level executives, management team, and staff at all levles
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with sound judgement, tact and discretion
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to build strong working relationships across levels
  • Exceptional multi-tasking and follow-through skills
  • Experience preparing expense reports and tracking budgets
  • Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple ongoing assignments
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills and experience with scheduling programs, email and internet

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Project management skills and experience a plus
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel knowledge preferred
