When it comes to taking care of the rural areas, every government has its own way of doing it. For some, it is passing laws and making efforts to bring in changes in policies. For others, it is encouraging new ways of development.

And when it comes to that last category, we have SayPro! Through its programs and initiatives, the organization endeavors to promote sustainable development of rural areas through proper planning and implementation. Well, looking at the success stories they have already accumulated, there’s no denying their contribution towards the betterment of our nation!

In rural areas of the state, people tend to be more interested in their village, community and country. They look for ways to take their development forward and play a pivotal role in it. How about the government and non-government agencies? When SayPro took on this case study, we wanted to know if our assumptions were true. After all, we believe that co-operative development can only happen when there is a strong understanding between the government and non-government sectors.

So, we decided to analyze Udi Local Government Area (LGA) in Mbi County. The local government area comprises of over 6500 villages where majority are rural settlements with little or no access to electricity, roads and other basic amenities like schools, hospitals etc. The estimated population of the region is 1,45,382 and literacy rate is 72%. We looked at various factors that hinder co-operative development by analyzing various aspects such as:

Cooperation mechanism among villagers

Panchayat governance
