A portfolio of evidence of course or learning materials/resources designed by the applicant and/or a portfolio of the candidate’s own postgraduate-level writing will be required for applicants who are invited to an interview. It is the applicant’s responsibility to have foreign qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

Job Description

Key Performance Areas: • Contribute to the conceptualisation, development, implementation and review of programmes, interventions and resources intended to develop postgraduate literacies in the CLM Schools; • Develop programme-specific research proposal writing courses/initiatives, in collaboration with School-based academic staff, and online educational designers; • Implement and coordinate online and blended courses, coordinate and facilitate writing retreats and workshops, and take responsibility for related administrative tasks, where appropriate; • Contribute to the creation, development, collation and review of online/digital resources; • Engage collaboratively in research in the area of academic literacies in higher education generally, and postgraduate writing scholarship specifically. Key Competencies: • Advanced academic literacy and extensive meta-level knowledge about academic/research writing in English; • Demonstrated excellence in research writing, report writing and editing; • Excellent English oral presentation, facilitation and communication skills; • Highly developed interpersonal skills appropriate to working effectively in a range of contexts and settings with students and staff from diverse backgrounds; • Knowledge of and openness to working with online and digital technologies; • Excellent organisational and project-management skills; • Reliability and conscientiousness, with the ability to follow through with responsibilities; • The ability to be self-directed: anticipating needs and taking initiative; • The flexibility to adapt, and to optimise resources in an emerging/changing environment; • The ability to work independently or in a team, and to initiate and manage multiple concurrent educational projects; • A high level of proficiency in MS Office and related applications, and in using learning management systems. Minimum Requirements: • A Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics or a closely-related field; • At least four years’ experience of writing development/support at tertiary level; • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in supporting postgraduate writing; • Experience working with the writing of students at postgraduate level; • A teaching qualification, such as a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or substantial teaching/tutoring experience; • Experience working with learning management systems, particularly Canvas; • Experience of curriculum development, materials development or online and blended learning and teaching, particularly in the fields of management, law, or commerce.
