Why is home visiting such an effective tool in tribal healthcare? Is it the trust and respect that it generates? Or is it because of the intricate understanding of a patient’s cultural needs and life decisions that come with it? Whatever it is, we’re glad to know that SayPro has made a name for being ahead of the curve while implementing this model in tribal communities.

What did they learn from the HomVEE review held last year? Why should healthcare professionals think beyond medical procedures to implement wellness-focused interventions? Read on!

Home visiting is a well-known method to reach out and educate the people in tribal communities. It was started by German professors in the 1950s, and since then, it has received global recognition. A team of SayPro volunteers recently visited tribal villages spread across India, and here are some of their insights:

Home visiting is not just a method to reach out to the deprived sections of society; it’s also an effective way of conveying information about health and hygiene. You can never be too sure about the impact your words have on someone else, but when you see a senior wearing his new slippers or making his bed with fresh sheets every day, it’s hard not to understand what he means by ‘a strong mind is a strong body.’

When we meet them with cookies and chocolates, they smile at us for being so kind but wish that our gifts can last for months together as some do. We try to explain our intentions but if anything, it just makes them more excited about the visit.

How do we break down the barriers in tribal communities? What is the best way to reach them? How can they be educated and empowered? When we introduce a new Home Visiting Model to these communities, SayPro is there to help. With 20 years of experience, SayPro has worked with hundreds of tribes in the US and abroad to implement this model. This year, Say pro held a Tribal Review in New York, where they discussed its benefits and tookaways for their indigenous clients. Now that you know about it, why don’t you give it a try!

SayPro has always been a leading name in home healthcare products and services. We know that getting the right support for loved ones can be a daunting task, especially when you are new to an area or don’t know the resources available. That’s why we have partnered with HomVEE to provide a tribal visiting model to help families traverse this territory together. In October 2017, SayPro attended the HomVEE Tribal Review in Washington DC and was able to observe how it was implemented in real-time. This is just one of the many ways that we partner with our community to improve health outcomes and make a difference in people’s lives.

We hope that by sharing what we saw at the review, you will be inspired to implement this model where ever possible. For more information on SayPro’s home healthcare products and services, visit www.sayprohealthcare.com or call our friendly customer service team at 1-800-245-4579.
