Company Description

SNV is an international not-for-profit development organization, working in over 25 low-and-middle income countries worldwide. With our team of 1,300 specialists, we focus on increasing people’s incomes and employment opportunities in productive sectors like agriculture as well as on improving access to basic services such as energy, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). By continuing to focus on these interconnected areas, and adapting and expanding our approach, we will reach more people and continuously improve the quality of SNV’s work.

Youth employment and entrepreneurship development is at the core of much of SNV’s work. In line with this, SNV aims to scale up the work creating job opportunities for and with young people with a main focus on our three sectors, yet with flexibility to explore opportunities for youth employment in other sectors as well. SNV will also partner with others who have credible technical and market experience in additional sectors with high economic potential for youth employment and entrepreneurship development. Strategic features of the tested and proven SNV youth employment and entrepreneurship model and interventions include the matching of skilled entrepreneurial minded youth with market opportunities, aiming at the realization of youth employment and youth-led enterprise development by applying the Push, Match, Pull, Enable” (P-M-P-E) approach. SNV explicitly aims for systems change during project preparation and implementation – by strengthening institutions and kick-starting markets that help many more to escape poverty beyond our projects.

SNV’s approach is implemented across our sectors: food, energy and WASH and consists of three phases:
Vocational training and apprenticeships: Push
Based on market scans, our experience in value chain development and knowledge of local markets, SNV selects markets with realistic growth potential for young people.
Meaningful and inclusive employment: Match
Young people are connected with real employment opportunities in a market segment of their choice while others are supported to create employment opportunities for others.
Kick-starting a youth employment market: Pull
After completing their training and apprenticeships, we leverage our trusted position with local businesses to connect market-ready young people with concrete opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship
Creating lasting and inclusive results: Enable
