The day is celebrated all over the world on 14 September as International Literacy Day. Literacy is not just a skill to get a job, but it is also a way of life. The importance of literacy can be gauged from the fact that 90% of the books are read online rather than offline. SayPro aims at making the difference more and more by arranging various literacy events on a regular basis in various schools and colleges.

One of the most heart-wrenching stories to come out of the 2010 World Cup was the tale of Makhelisi Klundile. The illiterate girl was an ardent fan of South Africa’s performance on the field, but she could not understand why her team was losing or why they were being criticized by commentators. She wanted to know and experience things beyond what was being shown on TV. That is when Litasa came in to rescue her. They partnered Makhelisi with SayPro, a literacy program where learners read as many books as possible to improve their reading skills. Below you can learn how fun it is to do something good for someone else and how easy it is to find an organization that matches your expertise and availability.
