Job Description
Purpose of the job To manage the inputs into and the accuracy of university Payroll subsystem. To coordinate all month-end year-end processes and tax year-end processes. Prepare reports for the accounting of salaries, accruals, deductions and other payroll functions. Key Performance Areas Compiles financial tax and payroll reports for both internal and external purpose. Coordinates and interacts with internal and external stakeholders on issues pertaining to employee compensation and deductions. Reviews reconciliations for accuracy and makes necessary adjustments and corrections. Perform the monthly and annual payroll reports and movement analysis. Researches, analyzes and resolve technical tax and regulatory issues. Recommends or participate in the development of new procedures and policies related to payroll operations. Coordinates schedules and conducts training sessions for payroll personnel to explain payroll policies and procedures, regulations and laws. Requirements: NQF Level 7 degree in Financial Accounting with Taxation III as a subject. Minimum 6 years in the financial accounting field 3years of which should be in Payroll management in a higher education environment. High technical proficiency in accounting and a sound understanding of various accounting standards and legislative prescripts i.e IFRS, Income Tax and VAT. Sound knowledge of internal control principles. Sound knowledge of employee benefits management Demonstrated project management skills including the ability to organize, plan, analyse, develop, and adhere to budgets, and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and a clear effective customer service approach. Competencies and skills Strong numeric orientation Team player Attention to detail and precise work orientation. The good interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) The ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines. Mental agility dealing with work in a proactive manner.
