SayPro PREPARE AND START LABELLING EQUIPMENT.

Definition: The labelling process is part of a packaging line that puts labels onto bottles, either from a continuous roll or as individual patches. Bottles generally enter the labeller in single file, glue is applied and labels are applied to the bottles then smoothed. Bottles could also be date coded.Labels are put on glass or PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles to provide information about the product to the consumer. Cans and laminated packs generally don’t need labels because the information is printed on the body of the pack. Some of the information is required by law, for example, net contents, ingredient labelling, product description, address of manufacturer or importer.Labels can also give extra information, for example, nutritional information or serving suggestions. Labels help to advertise or promote the product, so their appearance is important. They might include bar coding or date coding, or these might be applied directly on the bottle.Labels are made of:

  • paper
  • laminates of paper with foil
  • synthetic polymer such as polypropylene
  • They can be in the form of one or two patches glued to the bottle (for example, front and back), a patch and a neck label or wrapper, or a strip label, which is wrapped around the barrel of the bottle. Sometimes plastic labels are attached to bottles by bottle manufacturers.
  • Patch labels are often supplied in a stack of individual patches. Glue is applied to each patch before it is stuck on a bottle.

Strip labels are supplied as a continuous roll, which is cut to the correct length, glue is applied to each piece or to the bottle and then each piece is wrapped around the bottle. Labels are stuck to bottles with hot-melt glue, a water-based adhesive or some other system.Other labelling systems include:

  • Self-adhesive labels which already have the adhesive on the unprinted side of the label, which is covered with a peel-off sheet.
  • Thermo-sensitive labels with a thermoplastic coating on the back of the label, which is activated by heat when it’s put on the bottle.
