Job Description Job Title: Program Coordinator Job Category: Exempt Status: Full Time, Contract (2 years) Supervisor: Country Representative, Somalia Region/Unit: Somalia, International Programs - Africa Location: Nairobi, Kenya with frequent travels to Somalia Date Approved: Program Description: AFSC works on behalf of American Quakers to build peace with justice in Africa and around the world. AFSC has been active on the African continent for over 50 years. The AFSC started to work in Somalia in 2008. AFSC focuses on conflict prevention and peacebuilding, social justice, human displacement, Migration, and humanitarian assistance. Its geographic priorities are chosen according to the impact and potential for conflict. Summary of Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Somalia Country representative, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of the DADOKI program activities. S/he works collaboratively with other DADOKI program partners and colleagues in the Somalia program. The position holder will provide the technical direction to DADOKI program and partner staff in the areas of Program implementation and management, Reporting, peace building, advocacy, Migration, and displacement. S/he will contribute to the Somalia Country program strategy ensuring clarity working towards AFSC’s overall goals of just and sustainable peace, just responses to forced displacement and migration. Partner Accompaniment and technical backstopping will be a key integrated component of the coordinator’s work. The Program coordinator will support the Somalia Country representative in coordinating with key stakeholders including Implementing partners, local CSO’s, and Line Ministries. Essential Responsibilities and Duties: · Responsible for overseeing, Implementation and coordination of DADOKI Program activities in relation to the program commitments. · Plans, organizes, and coordinates the overall operational activities of the DADOKI program · Ensures that Peace Building activities are implemented in accordance with the AFSC values and testimonies. · Responsible for supporting partner concept/proposal development, budgeting, and budget monitoring to guarantee value for money. · Responsible for conducting regular meetings with implementing partner staff to follow up on program implementation including revision of targets against achievement, identification of gaps to define needed adjustments in implementation. · Working with partner staff to development reporting templates, ensure quality and timeliness of reports. · Continuously Accompany partners in project implementation, provide timely support and mentorship. · Responsible for program feasibility through collating, packaging, and publishing human interest stories on AFSC websites and other social media platforms. · Identify consultancy needs, develop relevant TOR’s and participate in identification relevant program consultants. · Responsible for identifying fundraising opportunities, developing DEP concepts, program concepts and proposals for increasing the program funding base. · Experience in project coordination, relationship building, and remote partnership · Articulate AFSC’s values and principles including its commitment to peace and nonviolent approaches to social justice and peacebuilding at external meetings and when required. Minimum Qualifications: Education: · Bachelor’s Degree in related field such as Peace studies, conflict transformation, peacebuilding, international affairs/relations, project management, social work, sociology, humanitarian affairs or other fields relevant to AFSC’s work on peace, social justice, and humanitarian assistance. Experience: · Minimum of 5 years’ experience in relevant work. · Knowledge/experience in Program/Project cycle management, organizational development, evaluation, and monitoring. · Knowledge/experience in Grant management and exposure to multiple donor agencies. · Knowledge/experience in the work of local and international NGOs or civil society organizations. Other Required Skills & Abilities: · Commitment to Quaker values and testimonies. Understanding of and compatibility with the principles and philosophy of the American Friends Service Committee including nonviolence and the belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual. · Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns, and considerations of AFSC regarding issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff. · Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills · Administrative competence and good computer skills (Microsoft Office programs). · An ability to take the initiative, manage priorities and work independently on specific issues. · Willingness to work in the context of economic hardships, Conflict situation, under tight schedules and keen interest in supporting communities living post/in conflict scenarios. · Willingness to learn, and desire to use this placement to further your personal and career development in the field of peace and conflict work.
