**SayPro Racial Equity Visionary Award Program for Research at Minority Serving Institutions on Substance Use and Racial Equity

When SayPro launched its Racial Equity Visionary Award Program in 2014, our goal was to change the narrative around substance use and racial inequality. We wanted to break down the barriers that keep people from feeling comfortable seeking help, learn about resources, and participate in research. Our award program recognizes universities who are committed to doing just that.

Similar to their peers, minority serving universities (MSUs) face unique challenges when it comes to substance use and racial equity. Researchers have found that minorities experience higher rates of alcohol use disorders and more severe withdrawal severity than Caucasians when trying to quit drinking. They are also more likely to be victims of alcohol-related injuries or deaths related to a driving impairment.

As a sponsor of the SayPro Racial Equity Visionary Award Program for Research at Minority Serving Institutions on Substance Use and Racial Equity, we hope that by recognizing academic leaders who are committed to breaking down these barriers, we will be able to contribute even more toward eliminating these disparities in health.

SayPro is proud to announce the launch of its Racial Equity Visionary Award Program for Research at Minority Serving Institutions on Substance Use and Racial Equity. The SayPro program is designed to recognize, support and encourage the research, scholarly activities and creative works that advance racial equity within substance use research. The program will select outstanding candidates who will be honored at an upcoming SayPro Summit event.

The next summit is October 27-28 in California. If you would like to attend, see the website for more details or contact us today.

Did you know that racism and substance abuse are closely linked? Or that only 12% of racial minorities who use substances get treatment? This is why SayPro created the Racial Equity Visionary Award Program for Research at Minority Serving Institutions on Substance Use and Racial Equity. By funding research on these important issues, SayPro is helping to advance our understanding of substance use among racial minorities and advancing equality by promoting the health and well-being of all Americans. Thank you for your commitment to racial equity research!
