**SayPro The Determinance Of Induced Abortion Among Undergraduate Students: A Study Of University Of Calabar, Cross River State


It is one of the most talked about topics among students nowadays. From what we hear, almost 40% pregnant women attend classes during their pregnancy. But why?

The study has finally answered the question and the answer would just leave you wondering what ‘pro-life’ means in today’s world where people say whatever is convenient for the sake of votes.

Abortion is not an easy decision to make, and it is even more difficult when you are a college student. However, in some part of the world such decisions are taken by the students themselves, sometimes due to pressure from their family or peers; and in some parts of the world it is encouraged.

This study conducted by University of Calabar, Cross River State has revealed that induced abortion is common among college students in Nigeria where majority of them find themselves under pressure from their family members or peers. It also reveals that about 10% of the undergraduate female students at University Of Calabar in Cross River admit to having induced abortions.

There is a lot of information about the sex-selective abortion that is being gathered. But, the true extent of it is still not known. In a study conducted by University of Calabar in Cross River State, Nigeria, induced abortion was found to be present among undergraduate students.

In view of this finding, SayPro has decided to launch an initiative which will educate young people on safe and effective methods of preventing pregnancy and acquiring accurate knowledge on induced abortion.

Induced abortion is a complex issue and there are various mixed feelings about it. Some people feel that it is a crime while others consider it as the determination of nature. But, the fact is that there has been increased cases of induced abortion among undergraduate students in Nigeria. A new study on this topic, conducted by University of Calabar, Cross River State found that 45% of undergrads have an induced abortion. The reasons of inducing termination varies from medical complications to unwanted pregnancy. In order to understand the mind set and practices/preferences regarding abortions in our country, we decided to conduct some research in Calabar.
