SayPro What challenges do we face when conducting farming systems research in developing countries?
When conducting farming systems research in developing countries, there are a few main challenges that researchers encounter. For starters, many of the farmers that we work with do not have access to modern equipment or even have land that can be used for farming. This makes it difficult to conduct research on a wider scale and assess the impact of different agricultural practices. Even in countries where research is being conducted, poverty and rural development often limit what type of research can be done. For example, if we want to study the effect of climate change on crop production, we may not be able to do so because the resources required to carry out such research are not always available. Furthermore, getting farmers on board with the idea of changing their agricultural practices can be challenging. They may not want to make any changes without knowing for sure if it will actually improve their yields. It can be helpful to involve them in the research process from the beginning so that they feel vested in its outcome
