Job Description
Job Purpose The Department of Transport and Public Works, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for suitably qualified and competent Engineering Technologists to provide technical advice and support by applying engineering principles and techniques to address engineering challenges for Road Systems. The successful incumbents will be required to deliver, oversee and assist in quality assurance of system, data gathering/ capturing and other system operational tasks for the provincial road network. This post is stationed in Cape Town, CBD. Minimum Requirements Bachelor of Technology in Engineering (B Tech) or relevant qualification; A minimum of 3 years post qualification Engineering Technologist required; A valid code B driving licence; Compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technologist. Or have submitted with ECSA for Professional registration as a Professional Engineering Technologist. (proof of payment to be submitted with application) and compulsory registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technologist will then be applicable within 6 months from appointment. Recommendation Public Sector / exposure minimum of one-year; Applicable in transport infrastructure, road construction and/or maintenance of surface and gravel roads or the asset management processes of these assets; Exposure of financial, human resource, supply chain, contract management; Thorough knowledge of all relevant legislation, regulations and policies related to Provincial proclaimed roads; Exposure to project management, budget and financial management; Exposure to systems and the development of systems; Further studies or courses; Experience across various design stages concept, preliminary, detail for multidisciplinary design projects; Experience compiling/preparing tender projects and supervising staff /teams.

Execute R&D projects in line with the divisional research program, employing finance control and electrical engineering theory and principles—the primary contact point on client projects for project administration and technical aspects. Provide clients with advanced training at a nationally-competitive level of technical expertise. Contribute technically to marketing presentations. Ascertain needs of clients to contribute to annual R&D planning and strategy. Ensure that projects are executed on time and within budget. Ensure that QES procedures are strictly adhered to, and that project work is completed with maximum overall technical efficiency. Actively participate in the training, guidance, and motivation of junior staff. Participate in team debates and technical decisions. Produce professional reports, papers, and presentations at local and international conferences. Keep up-to-date at a professional level with technology and business developments relevant to the division’s interests.
