GOAL has been working in Syria since 2013, responding to the acute needs of conflict-affected communities. Job purpose: The MIS Officer will support design and implementation of information systems intended to facilitate the flow of programme-related data for improved information management, reporting and progress tracking purposes Duties, objectives and competencies Main responsibilities: Reporting, Analysis and Information Dissemination Ensure regular and consistent updating of programme beneficiary and assistance delivery via appropriate reporting software/platform Generate summary statistics, and rapid and initial analysis and findings from Programme databases, M&E datasets and/or other sources of data to support data requests from Programmes and Grants teams Verify beneficiary reporting figures for quarterly and final donor reports, ensuring that reported figures best match with sources of information Design maps using GIS applications.      ABOUT THE PROJECT Internews is working at the frontline of the COVID-19 infodemic to ensure communities have access to timely, accurate, and responsive information, so that people can make well-informed health choices. Through the Rooted in Trust 2.0 (RiT) project, Internews aims to combat COVID-19 rumors and misinformation in 10 countries: Afghanistan, Lebanon, Brazil, Colombia, Mali, DRC, Zimbabwe, Iraq, Sudan and South Sudan. We work to create impact at the local level and inform approaches to rumor management at the global level. In Sudan, Internews' RiT project tracks COVID-19 related rumors and misinformation among conflict-affected communities, including on social media platforms, and through face-to-face discussions with community members. This regular feedback collection aims to inform and influence risk communication efforts by humanitarian and public health actors, and to support local media in disseminating accurate and actionable information that responds to communities' COVID-19 information needs. The project is supported by a Global Technical Advisory team made up of media, humanitarian, data science and information management experts. In Phase 1 of the project, we collected more than 19 thousand rumors in 14 languages and supported more than 30 local trusted information providers. In this critical phase of the pandemic, we will build on these efforts to listen and respond to the information challenges faced by vulnerable groups in humanitarian contexts, encouraging open dialogue between citizens and scientists and stronger and more collaborative partnerships between information providers (such as local media) and humanitarian and health sources. ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY The Information Management Officer will be responsible to ensure optimal information management across the Internews network at local and country levels. The Information Management Officer will focus on collating qualitative information like social media interactions, questions from audiences on radio and TV shows, concerns and questions as collected by CSOs and national NGOs, and where relevant, feedback collection by other humanitarian actors, and then ensuring it is cleaned, collated an organized in a consistent and continuous way in support of local and regional content production and informed decision-making among humanitarian and health actors.      The Humanitarian Information Team (HIT) comprises information officers (IOs), geographic information officers, and graphic designers who support the collection, dissemination, and communication of humanitarian information on behalf of USAID. On average, the HIT produces more than 500 standard information products each year, including public fact sheets, internal situation reports, maps, talking points, memoranda, and cables, as well as the annual report. Responsibilities The HIT Manager is responsible for ensuring that HIT staff gathers, disseminates, and presents humanitarian information appropriately for public and internal government audiences and that the team effectively meets the USAID client’s needs.     REQUIREMENTS : A Bachelor’s Degree in Creative/Graphic Arts (NQF 7) or equivalent qualification within the related field plus 5 years of experience at a middle/senior managerial level within the relevant field. Knowledge, including: expert marketing, advertising and/or communication knowledge; design practices such as, brand development, user-centred experience design and digital design; basic to good general environmental and sustainable development knowledge; basic management knowledge including project and business process management; and knowledge of research methodologies and research presentation. In terms of skills: high level computer proficiency 55 and skills, especially with creative software like Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.), Affinity Designer, Appy Pie Design, Canva, Colorcinch, CorelDRAW, Design Wizard, GIMP, Gravit Designer, Inkscape, PixTeller, Vectr, Visme, and/or Xara Designer; organising, facilitation and high-level written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills; technical copy writing skills and experience; analytical and decision-making skills; research and general information?gathering techniques; strategic capability and leadership; people management and empowerment; and financial management. In terms of personal attributes, the Department is looking for someone who is: a strategic, analytical and creative thinker; innovative and proactive; able to work long hours voluntarily; able to gather and analyse information; able to work independently and in a team; able to provide overall strategic guidance; able to lead a multidisciplinary team; able to work under pressure; able to take the initiative; and someone who is responsible and loyal and disciplined. Proof of completion of the Senior Management Pre-entry Programme as endorsed by the National School of Government (NSG). DUTIES : To this end, duties include: managing the identification of information product opportunities, including the creation of information product ideas and mock ups; managing the development of identified information products for departmental clients; securing management and departmental client approval for prioritised information product proposals, plans and budgets; mobilising and managing internal Directorate resources to develop information products; securing the services of any external service providers required for the development of information products; managing the update and maintenance of information products that provide continuous information value and positive impact through periodic data updates; establishing, maintaining, and managing relationships with technical experts within the Department and its entities for the update and maintenance of information products; monitoring and reviewing the impact of information products; managing and conducting environmental literacy surveys as required.
