Job Description

Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas The University of the Western Cape (UWC) enjoys national and international acclaim for its continuing contribution to democratic change in South Africa and for making quality education accessible to all South Africans and developing centres of excellence of national importance. The Dullah Omar Institute (DOI), established in 1990, is a self-funded unit in the Faculty of Law (UWC) focussing on research and advocacy on human rights and democracy in South Africa and Africa. It pursues the transformation of society, according to a rights-based, anti-racism, and feminist paradigm, and binds itself to these values internally. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to the development of the Dullah Omar Institute in the Faculty of Law. The Dullah Omar Institute seeks to appoint an Administrator: Department to assist with all project related administrative procedures, in order to ensure alignment and compliance with central administrative systems and procedures. Reporting to the Project Head: Multilevel Government and SARChI Chair in Multilevel Government, the appointee’s duties will include, but not be limited to the administration and execution of the following tasks: • Academic Administration • Enquiry Management • Marketing & Recruitment • Marks Administration • Committee Administration • Financial Administration including budget administration and procurement • Event Organisation • Meeting Administration • Human Resources Administration • Reception SayPro • General Administration and Reporting including office administration, assisting document management, liaising with service providers, e.g. Technical Services, Audio Visual Services, etc. Minimum Requirements • Matric and relevant three-year post-matric qualification with two years relevant • OR Matric with three to five years relevant • Proficiency in computer programmes/software packages e.g. Word; Excel / MS Office Suites / Power Point The following would be ous: • Bachelor’s Degree • Administrative in a Higher Education environment as well as knowledge of student administration systems Competencies required: • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Excellent attention to detail • The ability to collaborate with various stakeholders • Planning and organizing skills • Excellent time management skills • Intermediate to expert user of computer office applications • Good writing and minute-taking skills • High level of stress tolerance
