SayPro Communications and Advocacy Management (Local Position)

Job Summary:

The Communications and Advocacy Officer works to increase public awareness of CARE’s work and to influence policies affecting the communities that CARE and its partners serve in Ukraine. The role supports international CARE communications, media and advocacy teams with up-to-date information, media angles, human interest content, photos/videos, analysis of the Ukraine context and relevant policy analysis. The role liaises in-country with all relevant stakeholders and represents CARE’s position externally.

Responsibilities:

1. External communications and media relations

• Works with program team and partner organizations to collect stories and visuals (photos, videos) about CARE’s impact on the ground to inform fundraising, communications and donor reporting.
• Responds to requests for information from journalists, members of CI, and donors, including arranging interviews and field visits.
• Acts as media focal person to coordinate media and COMWG calls.
• Proactively develops newsworthy media angles, press releases and other content.
• Undertakes local media and social media monitoring to advise on current trends and conversations.
• Provides media/communications training to CARE staff and partners.
• In coordination with external designers or consultants (when appropriate), produces brochures, posters, videos, presentations, etc. (written or visual), to support and promote CARE’s programming ensuring alignment with CARE International Brand Standards
• Other (communications) tasks and meetings as directed, including translation and assistance with site visits and visitors.

1. Advocacy – from local to global

• Works with program team and partner organizations to develop and disseminate relevant advocacy positions that support CARE’s operations and the interests of the communities CARE serves.
• Liaises with multiple stakeholders in country for up-to-date political developments that may influence CARE’s humanitarian operations.
• Co-develops, edits and disseminates policy briefings, position papers and other documents to highlight CARE’s key messages for change.
• Maintains strong relationships with key CARE internal stakeholders through provision of regular information.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, political science or related field

Minimal requirements:

• Strong written and oral communications skills in Ukrainian and English
• Demonstrated experience of advocacy tools and context analysis
• Demonstrated editorial skills for public-facing communications products
• Demonstrated experience of an ability to craft clear, concise and engaging messages and stories
• Demonstrated experience and creativity in storytelling and digital skills (photography, social media etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse team and on short deadlines: the position requires an individual who can work overtime when required
• Demonstrated commitment to CARE’s humanitarian mission including principles of gender justice and equality

Desired requirements:

• 5years + Journalism / public relations experience
• Previous NGO experience

Working & Living Conditions

Main duty station will be the office in Lviv in the Western region of Ukraine with possibility of moving this office to Kyiv. Expected percentage of travel time: 10 – 15% to CARE project locations in any of the oblasts where CARE programs activities are conducted.

The security situation is currently moderate in Lviv but may differ in project locations.
